Grundfos Improves its Internet-based Services
with a New Gateway Developed by Develco
Product-wise Grundfos pumps have had a leading technological position for many years. With Internet of Things solutions, Grundfos has also taken the lead in the Service section.
A Huge Improvement Potential
Grundfos has long recognized that intelligent digital solutions represent a huge potential for their customers in improving plant performance. Also in relation to the continued technological development at Grundfos internet based solutions are a source of valuable information. Grundfos has continuously materialized their visions into innovations improving information gathering and management. Effective monitoring of pumping systems has major safety and economic implications in the prevention of breakdowns or extraordinary load. Climate change including in particular larger water masses to follow has sharpened the latter challenge. The monitoring, however, has previously been very resource-intensive with traditional methods in the form of inspections. Grundfos therefore set up a Remote Management System called GRM, which is an Internet-based system for monitoring and managing pump installations in eg commercial buildings, water supply networks and sewage systems. With connection to the GRM system, the user has a full overview of system operation via PC as well as text message in case of emergencies. GRM provides Grundfos with access to Big Data on all monitored systems and thus a valid analytical basis for optimization of both pumps and services
Grundfos Connect Box G501
Develco has developed a gateway, G501 Connect Box, which is distinguished by many connectivity options and thus to be optimized for residential and commercial buildings, municipal buildings and institutions with Grundfos pumps. The unit can be connected to the pumps via wired communication (GENIbus) and wireless in the form of radio communications. G501 can also be connected via pulse-width modulation (PWM), digital input and output or start / stop relay. In addition, the G501 has three inputs for external sensors for measuring pressure, flow and temperature.
The Development Process
Develco has cooperated with Grundfos on development projects in more than 25 years and has a broad and deep understanding of the company’s technological platform. Develco has helped to develop several of the communications solutions that monitors and controls the pumps. Project manager Erik Refsgaard, Develco, says about the project: “G501 Connect Box is a valuable innovation concerning functionality. It is not based on revolutionary new technology. On the contrary. The large – and definitely not simple – challenge for our engineers has been to familiarize themselves in old protocols and software and make a flawless conversion to a present transmission standard. I am proud that we have succeeded, and Grundfos has received a product that is truly useful. ”
